Bad Meets Evil, an explosive duo!

This week, I will talk about a band which does a type of music that I didn’t write about yet. It’s Bad Meets Evil! It consists of the rappers Royce da 5'9" (Bad) and Eminem (Evil), so you can guess, they do hip hop music.

The two rappers grew up in Detroit and had mutual friends, but it’s at a show of Usher in 1997 that they really met each other. They decided to form a group, encouraged by the people around them and because of their chemistry.

They did many tracks, but, in 2001, Eminem work on an album with Dr. Dre’s. A conflict appeared between Royce's manager and Dr. Dre’s, which dissolved the duo in 2002. Later, an altercation between Eminem and Royce cut off any connections between them. Finally, they reconciled in 2006 after the death of their mutual friend and rapper Proof. In 2008, they officially worked again together and, in 2010, a project started to come alive. They finally released the album “Hell: The Sequel” in 2011.

If you listen to a song of 1999, for example “Scary Movies”, and to a song of 2011, for example “Fast Lane”, you can see a big difference. Their music evolved with their careers and experiences and, in my opinion, it’s a great fact!

Maybe you don’t know the songs that I named before, but you probably know the song “Lighters” with Bruno Mars. It’s my favourite song of them! There are also “Bad Meets Evil” and “Fast Lane” which have very interesting sounds!

Which song of this duo do you prefer?
Do you know other ones that you could make me discover?

Hedley, My Favourite Band!

This week, I will talk about a Canadian pop-rock band that I was supposed to see in their show during the spring break. I want to talk about Hedley! And for people who care about it, the show was canceled because of Jacob’s illness and is reported to June 1st 2012.

The current band was formed in 2004 in British-Columbia. Its members are (In order on the picture)Chris Crippin,Dave Rosin Jacob Hoggart (lead singer) and Tommy Mac.

I said “current band”, because originally the band was formed of Jacob Hoggard, Kevin Giesbrecht, Kevin Heeres, Ryan Federau and Brandon McKay. The old band bet Jacob $150 that he couldn’t finish into the top three for Canadian Idol. Jacob succeed the challenge, being in the top three, and he had to tell his fan to stop to vote for him, because he wanted to go out of the competition to continue with Hedley. Unfortunately, his friends of Hedley had put aside the band to concentrate them on their future. At this moment, Tommy Mac, Dave Rosin and Chris Crippin, who wanted to form a band and searched a singer, heard about Jacob, because of the TV show. He joined him and the band was formed!

Hedley released four albums to date. There is “Hedley” (2005), “Famous Last Words” (2007), “The Show Must Go” (2009-2010) and “Storms” (2011). They have so many hits, beginning by On My Own and Gunnin’(2005), passing by For The Nights I Can't Remember and Never Too Late (2007), continuing with Cha-Ching, Don't Talk to Strangers and Perfect (2009), now with One life and Invincible (2011) and there are many more! They were nominated and won awards repeatedly since 2004.

Hedley is, by far, my favorite band! I love their music and the energy they have. According to me, their album Storms is their better to date. My favourite songs of them are Perfect, Invincible and One Life.

And you, do you like this band?
Which album is your favourite?
Which songs do you prefer?

fun., a Name Which Says Everything!

No, there's no mistake in the title! There is a dot and no capital letter, because, this time, I will talk about “fun.”; but not “fun” like “happiness”.

"fun." is the name of a band formed in the winter of 2008 in New York. Its members are Nate Ruess (lead vocals), Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Before 2008, they were in three different bands (respectively The Format, Anathallo and Steel Train). This band was an idea of Nate who already knew the two others and asked them to join him for his project. They took one week to work together and the result was very positive!

Their sound is a mix of indie, pop and rock music. They released two albums. There are “Aim and Ignite” in 2009 and “Some Nights” in February, 2012. Maybe you already know their new song “We Are Young”! If you like it, I suggest you to go to listen to their other songs. For example, there are “Walking the Dog”, “Some Nights” and “C’mon” (with Panic! At the Disco) that I really like and, if you prefer slower songs, there are “Take Your Time” and “Glamber”.

I hope I make you discover a new band!
Give me your feeling about them.

Chromeo, a Special Duo!

This week, I take a suggestion of one of you and I’ll talk about Chromeo. This electrofunk duo is from Montreal and is formed by two childhood friends, Dave 1 (David Macklovitch, lead vocal) and P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel). They like to say that they are "the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture." In the Macklovitch family, the music and the talent seem very present! The brother of David, Alain Macklovitch, who is known under the name “A-Trak”, is a DJ rather important in the music industry.

Their music has a big retro sound, it’s the thing which distinguich them from the others. They have three studio albums (She’s in Control, Fancy Footwork and Business Casual) and three mixed compilations. We can hear some of their songs, for example, in certain snowboard, surf and dance movies or in certain video games. So, maybe you already heard the song “Fancy Footwork” in the movie Step Up 3D!

I think that it’s an interesting duo and I really like the sound of their songs “Hot Mess” and “Fancy Footwork”! And you, what is your impression of them? Do you have other propositions?

"A Republic ?" "No, no, One Republic !"

This week, I didn’t have so much ideas for my blog… Are you forgetting me? I need your propositions of bands or singers for my next posts!

So, I choose a band in the same style than the one of last week! I will talk about One Republic. This is an American pop rock band from Colorado. At the begginning, Ryan Tedder (lead singer) and Zach Filkins absolutly wanted to create a band. They found Drew Brown, Brent Kutzle and Eddie Fisher which will join them afterward. The band is on in 2002!

They did music before, but it’s in 2007 that they knew their first success. It’s sure that you remember the song “Apologize”! Its original version was released in 2006, but it became a hit in 2007 with the version featured by Timbaland. After, they had other singles like “Stop and Stare” and “Secrets”.

My favourite song of them is, by far, “Apologize” even if it can be considered as an old song!
And you, do you know other songs of them? Which one do you prefer?

Please, I need your propositions!!! :P

Neverest, What's a Good Band!

This week, I will talk about Neverest. It’s a Canadian band from Toronto, Ontario. Since 2009, its members are Spyros “Spee” Chalkiotis (lead singer and founder), Mike Klose, Paul Loduca and Brendan Colameco. At the begginning, in 2007, Spee wanted to do a heavy rock band. Finally, they did and always do pop/R&B music!

The name “Neverest” suggests that everybody has his own Mount Everest. For them, it tells that as a band, they will work hard until they accomplish their musical goals!

They became to be known with their song “About Us” in 2010. Later, their song “Everything” also became a hit. Their album About Us contains some others song in the same style, like “Hate It” and “Blame Me”.

My favourite song of them is certainly “About Us”. And you, what is your favourite song? Did you already know that they were supposed to be a heavy rock band?

Bleeker Ridge, a Band That I Like!

This week, I will talk about a Canadian rock band named Bleeker Ridge. They have a lot of influences, but they usually do post grunge music. Its members are two sets of brothers, there are Taylor (singer) and Cole Perkins and Dan and Dustin Steinke.
They met each others at a show in Orillia, Ontario and came together in 2003. At that moment, Cole Perkins and Dan Steinke were only 12 years old! Their name comes from the mix of the name of their streets, the Perkins brothers lived on Bleeker St. and the Steinke brothers lived on Ridge Avenue.

They made two independent albums (Undertow and The Rain) and, in 2010, they signed with Roadrunner Records and released the album Small Town Dead. They were known with their first hit “Small Town Dead”, which is the title track of the album.

I like to listen to all the songs of their album Small Town Dead, but my favourite ones are the title track (Small Town Dead), You Would’ve Like It, From Now on, Sixteen Hours and Bitter Soul.

What do you think about them?
And which song do you prefer?
